Default Droid X2 doesn't impress

Droid X2 Doesn't Impress

Ok, so I started out with the original Droid and I loved it. When the X came out, I had to have it so less than a year later, I was holding a new X in my hands. It's what I carry now. I've been hearing a lot of buzz about the X2 coming out and I thought to myself, "Perfect, it'll be a 4G upgrade to an already great phone!".

Nope I was wrong. While the X2 is faster then it's predecessor and sports some new features, it's nothing to write home about in my opinion. It's already obselete before it even hit the market. Why? Two reasons.

1. No 4G capability. With Verizon and other networks touting their new 4G networks, why build a brand new phone so late in the game and not give it 4G capability? That doesn't make sense to me.

2. No front facing camera. While some of you may not see this as a big deal, the two go hand in hand. 4G and a front facing cam are going to be the big thing from now on. Why? Because it takes us from the voice only era to the videoconferencing era, via wireless. All of those dreamers years ago who thought this could happen but didn't know how to do it, well they get to see it happen, in real time.

It's no different then building new cars. You put the latest features in them. You don't build a 70's model car in 2011 do you? Same goes for phones.

While the X2 will have a good customer base, I'm not impressed. I give it a 3 out of 5. If it had those two distinct features, there would be no question. I would give it 5 out of 5.

So what next... I'm thinking that I'll be holding out for the Bionic.

Default just boggling

i would not go near a new phone now that does not have 4g capability or a front facing camera! and this has nothing to do with my being fed up with verizon. they change their contracts with other companies for use of other cell towers constantly. which resulted in giving me marginal to no service in my home (i had 3g at home when i purchased the phone). i know, another topic. just so **** mad.

Default X-2

I don't see any reason to spend money on a dual processor DROID X with no 4G! My opinion but seems ridiculous to me. What do you all think?

I agree. Anyone who builds a phone now without 4g capability is just building a dinosaur.

I would have to agree with y'all. I whole heartedly love the droidx that I have now. I would not however be inclined to purchase anew one without 4g. That would just be ignorant. When the world of technology moves you need to move with it or risk being lost in the shuffle. I will not be buying the x2. End of story.

I have a Droid2 and I am not going to upgrade until they "Verizon" get something that is better and not out dated when you get it.

I think the nexus s is nice but it's on sprint. Maybe when the new model is built maybe it'll come to verizon with 4g and front camera? I think it's a beautiful phone, plus google gives it everything first. I still have the original moto droid. Waiting to take the plunge again.

Good points. My wife still uses the original Droid and while I love it I'm so used to the bigger screen of the X now that the original feels tiny in my hands. My vision isn't great either so that's another reason why I love the X.

I have to admit though, the first Droid is awesome.

Default droid falling behind

I too started November 2009 with the original Droid. It's been a good device, though Motorola, Verizon and Google combined don't offer customer service that's worth a snort. I will be moving to an iPhone this summer.

I have been on OG Droid since 09 as well. I've been up for renew since Feb. I am holding out for the new Moto (Bionic??). I still love my Droid and don't consider the home screen lag or the occasional memory full notice prompting me to weed out rarely used apps a problem. I am holding on to the hope that I will be rewarded for holding out for the very delayed Moto 4G product. I am hoping that their decision to not push out a problematic device too soon will pay dividends.
