flash viewing available - to an extent
Hey folks, I just installed Skyfire, a web browser that converts flash that is viewable NOW, while the browser is a beta version with some issues of its own the conversion on BBC's website of flash to a format which is able to be.watched was fairly quick, this just makes me want Flash that much more now. Skyfire can't convert all Flash content, however I haven't run into this yet. Skyfire is available in the market place. Have fun. Rich

skyfire web browser. . .
Well after using Skyfire for a few days all it has done is make me want Adobe's Flash that much more. Skyfire does just enough to whet my appetite, I want it all & Skyfire just isn't capable enough. . . yet. While I have been able to watch news at quite a few sites, video on FOX it isn't possible on Hulu, ABC, NBC, or any of the major networks, more than a little disappointing to say the least. I am curious about Google's 1.6 OS with the Webkit browser & Flash Lite as to why it wasn't included with the Droid instead of the HTML 5 browser or even loading both allowing the user to choose which browser to use depending on our particular wants, my thoughts are that we bought the most advanced phone & operating system as well as one of the most expensive phones yet we are always waiting for something that should have been on the phone to begin with. Now word is out that a 2.2 OS upgrade "MAY" be out in 3 weeks or so with features that "really showcase the droids capabilities" ( not my wording, from the Motorola forums ), it has been my understanding that Google & Motorola worked very closely in the droids development yet search doesn't work correctly, we can't use the voice dialer, some have problems with core applications misbehaving to put it mildly, and the latest news from Adobe is we will have flash in June now. Since I mentioned the voice dialer, can anyone explain why text to speech works so **** well but it can't understand "call home"? My 4 + year old Samsung phone is 100 times better voice dialing from any headset, speaker or conventional use & that was less than a 1/3 the price of the Droid on Verizon's network, 4 YEARS AGO. Yes I do enjoy the Droid & I fell for all the hype which surprises me, although I did wait 4 months or so to order my phone after it was introduced so that some of the 1st issue bugs could be worked out, yet we are now in May of 2010 still working out bugs, wanting for more market place applications, flash, in short everything I expected with the Droid, did I really expect to much thinking the phone should do what it was advertised to do? End of rant. richg

I've been trying Skyfire for a week. I've came across a lot of sights that still say to download the newest version of Flash. But I have to say it seems to be a move in the right direction. Hopefully Skyfire will soon be able view all flash content, since Adobe doesn't appear to be in any hurry at all!
I do have one issue with Skyfire. It likes to open tabs a lot, instead of just opening a selected link in the current tab I'm viewing. Next thing I know, I have like 10 tabs open and have to close them all one at a time. I haven't found a setting to control this annoyance. Anyone have a suggestion??

Darnell, the Skyfire browser has the ability to VIEW SOME SITES with flash requirements, however I have not been able to view quite a lot, I bad read recently that Hulu for one as well as some other sites are actually blocking Skyfire. I just read ( 5 minutes ago ) that we may have a longer wait flash support. A poster in the know over at one of Motorola's forums had just stated that Flash will NOT operate on 2.1 but requires 2.2, I had never seen this before & I am trying to come up with more info about it, If I have the answer first I will post here. I'm a little confused, this is a Droid forum, and my Droid runs flash quite well. I run version 10.3 and I would assume all the other Droid users run flash as well.

This is an older thread, made before flash was actually available on any of the Android devices. This thread is obsolete really.
